Demo 2: Demo: NOMA Wi-Fi Prototype

Nowadays, public wireless networks become more and more overpopulated with a tremendous number of mobile devices of different generations. A promising way to improve spectral efficiency and user experience in a scenario with a large number of clients associated with the same Wi-Fi access point is related to non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA). NOMA allows several data flows to be transmitted in parallel to several users at the same time and frequency. As a result, NOMA increases the possible number of devices serviced together and reduces latency. Currently, NOMA is considered as a promising feature for future IEEE 802.11be networks. In this demo, we present the first-ever prototype of NOMA Wi-Fi devices. The prototype implements power-domain NOMA for downlink communications. It is fully backward compatible and allows a NOMA access point to transmit data simultaneously to two client devices: the first one supports NOMA, the second is legacy.

Demo 3: Demo: Capture Effect in Smartphones and Wi-Fi Access Points

Cisco has called interference the silent killer of wireless networks. The problem of interference becomes especially acute in dense Wi-Fi networks, where overlapping in time and frequency of several transmissions is a routine. In numerous studies, such situations are typically modeled as collisions, i.e., none of the overlapping frames are received correctly. In reality, this is not always true. Sometimes, the frame with higher power can survive if its receiver power is higher enough than the power of the rest transmitted frames. The ability of a device to receive the stronger frame if it comes later than the weaker one is called capture effect. Capture effect is rather fruitful for perfect operation in dense deployments since it makes the device more resilient to the Wi-Fi signals from neighboring networks. In this demo, we present a new version of our testbed that can be used to easily study capture effect for numerous off-the-shelf devices such as smartphones, laptops and access points. The use of this testbed does not require any modification of the tested devices, e.g., special software. During the demo, the conference participants will be able to check whether their Wi-Fi devices support the capture effect.

Demo 4: Demo: Digital Signage Personalization for Smart City: Major Requirements and Approach

The demo is based on the software prototype for personalized digital signage. Personalization of digital signage is achieved through analysis of visual characteristics of people (such as age, gender and emotional state). This demo is aimed at evaluation of the possibilities of Microsoft Azure services Face API to identify of the above visual characteristics. In order to evaluate the emotional state, the prototype affects user emotions via showing various pre-selected animations and captures and analyses the user’s face image.

1. Publication

Unless reviewed as a technical paper, a demo description is published only in the conference program and does not appear in conference proceedings or IEEE Xplore.
If a technical paper related to a demo is accepted to the conference, the authors shall present the paper within a corresponding technical session.

2. Registration

The presenters of Demos should have any valid registration for the day, when they present the demos.

3. Special requirements

If you have special requirements for the demo, please contact the Demo Session Chair, Anton Kiryanov ( at least three days before the conference.

4. Demo Session

Please install your demo during the lunch break on Tuesday, June 4, 12:40 – 14:00.

At the beginning of the demo session (right after the keynote), the authors will be given an opportunity to promote their demos in three minutes with one or two slides.
